Abstract: Fiber optics provide new forms of a biomedical devices.Performances achieved by this technology in terms of advantages like small size, flexibility, and immunity to electromagnetic interference and interms of key indicators like accuracy, resilience, reliability, sustainability, are paving the way to the development of new biomedical devices in many commercial and academic research laboratories around the world. The seminar will provide an overview of fiber optics sensors from the working principles to some recent biomedical applications.

Biosketch: Stefania Campopiano is currently a Full Professor in electronics and optoelectronics with the University of Naples Parthenope. She received the master’s (cum laude) degree in electronic engineering from the University of Naples Federico II and the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Università della Campania L. Vanvitelli. Her main research interests regard the development and practical application of fiber optic sensors for the measurement of a range of physical, chemical, and biological parameters. Important research outcomes are related to the exploitation of fiber optic sensors in different fields spanning from the structural health monitoring to the biomedical field.

She is currently the chair of the IEEE Sensors Council Italy Chapter.
