Immunometabolic control of immunological self-tolerance: implications for autoimmunity, infections and cancer, Prof. G. Matarese UNINA

The basic mechanisms of immunological self-tolerance are still largely un- known, despite considerable advances in basic research. Thanks to the study of immunometabolism in the last 15 years, some molecular and cellular mechanisms have been clarified, and these advancements have made possi- ble to detect in different pathologies (autoimmune diseases, infections and tumors), how self-tolerance operates with a single "script", despite the variety of different diseases. Interventions aimed at modulating and inducing either tolerance or breaking it, through immunometabolic approaches, could have relevance for the creation of novel therapeutic strategies in autoimmune dis- eases, infections and cancer.
