Using theoretical considerations, sequence alignments, as well as various bioinformatics softwares, I study two biological phenomena:

1) membrane fission mediated by CtBP1-S/BARS and other proteins;
2) Golgi localization of glycosylation enzymes and the role of protein adaptors, such as oncoprotein GOLPH3, in this process.

In the area of fission, I search for putative amphipathic helices of fission proteins and study the role of these helices in fission. I also investigate the interaction of fission proteins with other proteins belonging to the protein complex required for fission. I study lipid cofactors that are required for fission mediated by different proteins and search for sequence motifs that are involved in the interaction of fission proteins with these cofactors. I describe and characterize various subfamilies of fission proteins.

In the area of Golgi localization of glycosylation enzymes, I study the interaction of these enzymes with various proteins, such as COPI coatomer and adaptors, that play a role in the enzyme localization. I search for sequence motifs and binding sites that might be involved in this interaction. I propose experiments that aim to test the hypotheses concerning the putative biological role of these motifs and binding sites.
